When my talented friend Cassi Clark asked me to design the cover for her first book, I was honored to oblige. I wanted something fun and eye-catching that captured the funny, vulnerable, and sometimes irreverent tone of the book. The bright pink of the cover was both a nod and a wink at books (and anything else) that is marketed to women. Check out the book

Marketing for Cassi's book has gone through stages. For the book release party, which took place and Cassi and her husband's favorite bar, I wanted the promotional material to be like a band poster. Later as her marketing grew up, I gave it a warmer feel more appropriate to the intimate "best friend" tone of the book.

“When I asked Katie to design my breastfeeding book cover I expected an image of a woman screaming in pain while a scary baby latched viscously to her boob.
That is not what I got. What I got was a series of covers that evoked the pain and humor of my book. They were the kind of book covers that said “send me to your best friend,” which happened to fit my marketing campaign.
Even more than nailing the feeling of my book, the cover we ultimately picked, was immensely brand-able. Her design translated easily to my platform, and she made me social media banners, website images, bookmarks, tee shirt designs, even the little url image.
Her wonderful work made my book recognizable and cult-able. It is the perfect amount of appealing, evocative and useful.
